Many traders allow the all too commonly discussed negative emotions - fear and greed - to influence their trading decisions. These emotions are counterproductive when trading futures. As an alternative, traders can choose a futures trading system that matches their personality type or general trading style. By allowing a futures trading system to generate objective entry and exit signals - independent of emotional bias - traders can eliminate the effect of these emotions.

What are some of the downsides of system trading? Keep in mind that most futures trading systems are mechanical and are mostly based on technical charts.
Therefore, they are unable to incorporate major economic and political events. Another downside of futures system trading is draw downs. There are periods of time where the system is hitting a "losing streak" while still executing the same logic of the indicators prescribed. Last but not least futures trading systems are based on past performance which is no guarantee of future results. Make sure that when you evaluate a system you take into consideration factors such as commissions, slippage, and the cost of the system. Be sure to figure out how these factors may affect the end results.
